About Proofs

Papyrus Printing has several types of proofs that can fit your job's requirements. Even if you bring in your job disk-ready you should still see a proof and sign off on it to verify it is accurate. If you cannot come into the office, we can arrange for the proof to be delivered electronically, by mail, or by courier.

An Electronic "Soft Proof"

It will show you the size, text, and color of your job. This file should be much smaller than your original file and may be a lower resolution than that used for printing, as the monitor does not require the high resolution an image setter would. This type of proof is usually viewed on your monitor, so colour representation will probably not be very accurate ... this is why we usually reccommend a hard copy proof.

Composite Laser Proof

A black and white proof of a black and white job, or a color job with all colors represented on one sheet.

Separated Laser Proof

Black and white proof of each color used on the job. Also referred to as 'colour seps'.

Color Digital Proof

A digital proof most often on the chosen paper, color calibrated to match the final press run as closely as possible. The paper color of the printed job may change the colour slightly as press ink is semi-transparent, and digital toner is not.

Press Proof

A full representation of your final job using the press plates. It is printed on both sides of the paper, folded and trimmed just like the final product will be. This type of proofing is used very rarely because it is expensive.
